Trofeo Cala Millor, correspondente á segunda xornada da Challenge de Mallorca, propuña unha chegada ao sprint, que se consumou tras 172,4 quilómetros de percorrido, con vitoria para Óscar Freire (Rabobank). O Xacobeo Galicia buscou as súas opcións de vitoria con Francisco Pacheco, pero o home rápido do equipo galego non tivo opción de disputala ao quedar pechado en pleno lanzamento do sprint.
"Era unha chegada bastante complicada e houbo unhas freadas diante de min e xa me quedei descolocado para meterme no sprint", explicou Pacheco. Para o xeral dos corredores do Xacobeo Galicia a etapa "foi relativamente tranquila cunha fuga por diante, pero un final complicado, polas curvas e a estreiteza da estrada nalgúns momentos!". E fóra dun par de picadas de Carlos Castaño, a carreira non tivo máis incidencias para os corredores que dirixe Álvaro Pino.
A xornada empezou cunha fuga lanzada polo mallorquino Luís Mais (Burgos Monumental) no inicio da etapa, á que acabaron sumándose outros catro corredores: Deroo (Skil-Shimano) e Van Zandbeek (Van Vliet), Ortega (Andalucía-CajaSur) e Blázquez (Orbea).
O quinteto foi abrindo oco ata alcanzar unha vantaxe máxima de 8-36. A partir de aí o pelotón empezou a controlar aos escapados, por iniciativa do equipo Columbia, pensando en proporcionarlle unha chegada ao sprint a Greipel. Esta finalmente produciuse, pero o alemán tivo que conformarse coa segunda praza na meta de Cala Millor, por detrás do tricampión do Mundo Óscar Freire.
Na terceira xornada chegará a montaña, coa disputa do Trofeo Inca sobre un percorrido de 157,2 quilómetros. O perfil inclúe o porto do Soller (km. 101), de segunda categoría, e o alto de Puig Major (Km. 126) de primeira. Sobre este trazado xa se poderá apreciar un pouco mellor o estado de forma dos corredores, ata agora un tanto escondido no ventre do pelotón.
